Our Approach to Green Coffee

We have two simple goals:

  1. Raise incomes for coffee farmers
  2. Make home coffee roasting easier for you

Raising farmer incomes matters to us because we know how hard coffee farmers work. We have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with them under the African sun and knee-deep in mud during the Indonesian monsoon. It was exhilarating for us, but only because we did it for a few days at a time. The farmers do it every day, every year. It’s grueling work that deserves honest pay.

Does that mean our coffee is certified as fair trade (or approved by the rainforest)? No, it’s not, and that’s because the certification process is expensive and cumbersome for small farmers. We’re confident that the farmers that Dan has known for more than a decade are doing right by their staff. We hope you’ll believe in us as much as we believe in them.

We also think roasting green coffee beans at home should be way easier than the by-coffee-geeks-for-coffee-geeks niche that it is. If something on our site confuses you, reach out and tell us, so we can fix it.
